It looked like it was curtains for the Cleveland Indians after they were swept by Detroit in 4 games at Progressive. Doubly so with the LA Angels almost swept them in the series after. The Tigs took a commanding lead in the division, and the freefall didn't exactly help their Wild Card chances either.
But the Tribe still hasn't fallen off the table completely. Not yet.
Since the 6 game losing skid, the Indians have gone 7 and 3. They won the series against Minnesota, and are on the verge of sweeping the Halos tonight.
As for the Tigers, they've gone 5 and 7 since the sweep in Cleveland; the latest being last night's 6 to 3 loss to the Twinkies where Phil Coke was blasted so hard they shipped him down to the Hens, and Miguel Cabrera tweaking something in his final at-bat. He's already playing with a strained abdomen, injured hip, and bruised-up leg. That stuff isn't a big deal; you can walk the bases as slowly as you'd like when you hit it out of the park. But if he aggrivated something past the point of being unable to play, then the Tigers are losing a key piece to the team just as it's time to make the final push.
The Tribe is still 5 and a half back, but they're still playing loose. Looks like the reports of their golf schedule have been greatly exaggerated.
