LIGHT EM* MUP MUP MUP!! *couches— PCB (@PhilCokesBrain) January 2, 2014
Big day, not only for Michigan State, but for the Big Ten in general.
First, congrats to the Spartans. 3 straight bowl wins, 7 straight bowl appearnaces. Mark Dantonio is about to become a rich man, whether he stays in East Lansing or not. The Spartans have arrived, "Little Brother" be damned.
But for the B1G, it's even bigger. First off, it's only the 2nd win for the conference in the Grandaddy of them All since 2000 (Ohio State won in 2010). It was also their second bowl win of the season, right after Nebraska beat Georgia earlier in the day. For a division that has certainly taken it's lumps (including Minnesota and Michigan looking like salty garbage in the earlier bowls), the conference needed a signature win as the BCS gives way to the College Football Playoff.
In case you missed how those teams are going to be picked for the semifinal games, it's not through one of the polls; no more computers to blame. There's a 13 person panel that picks all 4 semi-finalists. The Big Ten will always be in the conversation (what with Barry Alvarez and Tom Osborne sitting on the panel), but wins like this begin to chip away at the notion that the B1G can't compete outside of a weak conference.
It's on you to bring the wins to 3, Ohio State. Don't screw it up.
